There will now be five nominees in the original song category for the 85th annual Academy Awards.

During the nominations process, all voting members of the music branch will receive a reminder of entries and a DVD copy of song clips.

Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five songs in the category. The five that receive the most votes will become nominees.

Upon recommendation from the designers branch (formerly the art directors branch), the art direction award will be known as the production design award.

  • The deadline for documentary filmmakers to submit short subject documentaries and necessary paperwork to the Academy is Sept 4. Eligible entries must complete a seven-day commercial run in a theatre in Los Angeles or the borough of Manhattan between Jan 1 2012 and Dec 31 2012.
