New regulations that govern marketing campaigns for the upcoming 80th Academy Awards have blocked companies from sending out 'For Your Consideration' CDs of soundtracks to members.

Following a meeting of the board of governors of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences, companies will no longer be allowed to send out recordings, sheet music and music videos.

They are also being encouraged to reduce surface mail and consolidate multiple mail-outs, and allow members to opt out of receiving any or all mailings.

'While we very much want our members to continue to take advantage of the many scheduled screenings, we hope this change in the Regulations will encourage companies to be more thoughtful and conservation-minded when they disseminate their screening information,' Academy president Syd Ganis said.

With regard to screenplays, the regulations allow companies to place downloadable versions on a Web site for Academy members to access if they choose.

Academy Award nominations in all categories will be announced on Jan 22, 2008, and the 80th Academy Awards will take place on Feb 24, 2008.
