Yasemin Samdereli’s comedy of manners Almanya: Welcome To Germany will kick off the event in Los Angeles, presented by The Goethe-Institut Los Angeles, German Films and The American Cinematheque.

The event will run from Oct 26-30 and screenings include the US premieres of Jan Fehse’s drama Jasmin and Robert Thalheim’s coming-of-age tale Westwind, as well as Florian Micoud Cossen’s drama The Day I Was Not Born and Chris Kraus’ drama The Poll Diaries.

The event will close with the US premiere of Angelina Maccarone’s revealing documentary Charlotte Rampling: The Look. There will a panel discussion on film funding at the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles headquarters on Oct 29.

“From pop to politics, from the dramatic to the whimsical, this fifth annual festival of German films offers thought-provoking and entertaining films and an excellent glimpse into current German cinema,” German Currents Showcase director Annette Rupp said.

The German Current Showcase is put together in association with MFG Film Funding Baden-Wuerttemberg and Lufthansa.
