Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried has signed on for the leading role of Hester Worley in Myriad Pictures' Oscar Wilde adaptation A Woman Of No Importance.

Bruce Beresford is directing and Donald Zuckerman producing, with Myriad president and CEO Kirk D'Amico serving as executive producer.

Annette Bening and Sean Bean also star in the cautionary tale about a young American woman who spends a weekend in the English countryside and turns the tables on her hosts when she learns she is part of a social game. Howard Himelstein adapted the screenplay.

'I think it's a great time to be producing a film about a young woman and her travails,' D'Amico said. '2008 showed us, with the success of Sex And The City and Mamma Mia!, that movies about women have finally come into their own from a commercial standpoint.'

Seyfried stars in HBO's hit series Big Love and her upcoming credits include Lasse Hallstrom's Dear John and Atom Egoyan's Chloe with Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore.
