Australia's weekend chart was based on five days instead of the usual four because half of the country was treated to a holiday Monday. Cinema attendance was also high because of welcome wet weather and continuing school holidays.

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen did quite extraordinary business for 20th Century Fox up to and including October 6, taking A$3,458,037 from 209 screens to gain the top spot on the chart and record an impressive screen average of A$16,545.

Putting aside the only IMAX film, this was the highest screen average of the weekend, although home-grown film Japanese Story also measured up well in its second week for Palace, as did Swimming Pool on only 20 screens for Dendy.

Bad Boys II (Columbia TriStar), Freaky Friday (BVI), Rugrats Go Wild (UIP) and Agent Cody Banks (20th Century Fox) all held their positions from last weekend, but Tomb Raider 2 (UIP) and Legally Blonde 2 (20th Century Fox) both took a dive.

Calendar Girls figures are from a second weekend of previews. Percentage changes compare five-day holiday weekend against normal four-day weekend last week.
