Australia's biggest cinema fit-out company, Greater Union Entertainment Technology (GUET), will begin operating as two businesses - one dealing only with film technology and the other handling the installation of sound, video and lighting systems in other markets - from February 1. The company is active abroad as well as in Australia.

With the change related to the arrival of digital technology, the film technology division will become part of the Greater Union Organisation's (GUO) Atlab Group. Atlab has been operating laboratories in Australia and New Zealand for over 60 years and the intention is to improve print-to-projector continuity.

GUO national technical manager Peter Williams will manage the cinema fit-out business, Atlab Image and Sound, while long-time GUET general manager Russell Scott will be in control of Sound, Video & Lighting (SVL). In recent years he has overseen such high-profile projects as Fox Studios, the Olympic Games, various casinos and theme parks, and the installation of televisions in railway stations.
