The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) unveiled its Gotham Independent Film Awards recipients in New York last night (Nov 28).

The nominees in each category are listed below, with the winners in bold as they were announced at the ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street.

Best feature
A tie between Beginners and The Tree Of Life
Other nominees: The Descendants; Meek’s Cutoff; and Take Shelter.

Best documentary
Better This World
Other nominees: Bill Cunningham New York; Hell And Back Again; The Interrupters; and The Woodmans

Best ensemble performance
Beginners (Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Mélanie Laurent, Goran Visnjic, Kai Lennox, Mary Page Keller, Keegan Boos).

Breakthrough director
Dee Rees, Pariah

Breakthrough actor
