Beta Film will handle world sales for director Paolo Sorrentino's much awaited film The Divo (Il Divo), Andrea Occhipinti of Italy's Lucky Red confirmed.

Sorrentino's film is inspired by the life of Giulio Andreotti, who served as Italian Prime Minister seven times whose name is a symbol for Italian post-war politics. Il Divo was his nickname.

Currently in post-production, Il Divo, which has a $7.4m (Euros 5m) budget, has been a top-secret project in Italy.

The film is a co production of Indigo Film, Lucky Red and Parco Film production with Sky Italia and the Turin Piedmont Film Commission in Italy. Babe Films and Studio Canal produce for France. Il Divo received additional support from Italy's Culture Ministry and Eurimages.

Sorrentino's past hits include The Consequences of Love and The Family Friend.

Il Divo stars Tony Servillo in the lead role alongside Anna Bonaiuto, Piera Degli Esposti, Fanny Ardant and Giorgio Colangeli.

Lucky Red will distribute the film in Italy in 2008.
