The UK'slargest electrical chain, Dixons, has said it is to stop selling video cassetterecorders, leading to predictions of the imminent demise of the VCR market inthe country.

Dixonsis phasing out VCRs due to the boom in DVD players, which can now be bought foras little as £25.

Theretailer expects to sell its remaining stock of VCRs by Christmas and saysdemand for VCRs has fallen dramatically since the 1990s.

JohnMewett, marketing director at Dixons, said: 'We're saying goodbye to oneof the most important products in the history of consumer technology.
