Stig Bjorkman’s Images From The Playground: Ingmar Bergman At Work will receive its British premiere at the Barbican next month.

The short film features behind the scenes footage and voice recordings of legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. It will also include footage that Bergman shot with a 9.5mm Bell&Howell cameram which he often used privately and in his work.

The film, which screened in official selection in Cannes, has been picked up for international sales by Svensk Filmindustri. Buyers – especially those with big Bergman library collections – have been swarming round it.

Images From The Playground will be screening in London as part of a Barbican “Directorspective” during the City Of London Festival. It will be part of a comprehensive overview of Bergman’s major cinematic works including newly restored prints from the Swedish Institute, shorts and documentaries.

There will also be a Barbican ScreenTalk with actress Harriet Andersson, who appeared in many Bergman films. Bjorkman is now at work on a second film – Scenes From An Artist - that will feature further behind-the-scenes material of Bergman later in his career.
