Friday’s Women in Film and TV Awards in London is a social highlight of the year.

Along with the first mince pies allowed in the Screen office (Dec 1), one sure sign that the holiday (and awards) season has begun is the annual Women in Film and TV awards. It’s always one of the social highlights of the year — it may be at lunch time, but we doubt many people make it back to the office afterwards!

Miranda Hart is hosting this year’s 21st edition, so we’re expecting plenty of laughs. WFTV CEO Kate Kinninmont says: “We’re incredibly excited that Miranda, the hottest talent in UK comedy right now, will be hosting this year, continuing our tradition of having the UK’s top comediennes overseeing the Awards.” Other presenters will include Kara Tointon, Jennifer Saunders, Edith Bowman, Imelda Staunton, Joan Bakewell, Kirsty Wark and Kathy Burke.

And it’s not just for the gals, there are plenty of (lucky) men in attendance as well — including presenters Philip Glenister and Tim Bevan.

No wonder tickets sold out in a record two and a half days for the festive affair, held at the Park Lane Hilton.

Screen will be there with bells on.
