Hong Kong-based We Distribution has sold Korean rights to Peter Ho-sun Chan’s Wu Xia to BOM Film Productions.

The film, which screened in the Midnight slot at Cannes, has also been acquired by The Weinstein Company for North America and European territories.

BOM was also the Korean distributor for Chan’s last film The Warlords and co-producer of horror omnibus Three with Chan.

“As a long-time friend of Peter, I trust his vision and capability in delivering something refreshing to the audience. Although Chinese-language films have not performed well in the Korea market recently, the success of The Warlords and the overwhelmingly positive reaction

of Wu Xia in Cannes have given me enough confidence that it will be a success in Korea,” said Oh Jungwan, producer of BOM Film Productions.

A Japanese deal for Wu Xia is also under negotiation. The film is scheduled to be released in China on August 3, followed by Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand in the same week.
