Jasmila Zbanic's GoldenBear-winning feature debut Grbavica has been selected by Bosnia and Herzegovina as its official submission for the Foreign LanguageFilm category at the forthcoming Academy Awards.

The co-production between Austria's coop99 Filmproduktion, Zbanic's own company Deblokada Filmproduction, Germany's Noirfilm Filmproduktion,and Croatia's Jadran Film has alreadybeen sold to more than 45 territories by The Match Factory and will be shown inthe Contemporary World Cinema section at the forthcoming Toronto InternationalFilm Festival.

Grbavica is about a single mother and her 12-year-old daughter living inpost-war Sarajevo.

In 2002, fellow Bosnianfilmmaker Danis Tanovic wonthe Foreign Language Film Oscar for his debut No Man's Land, which had been previously awarded the Golden Globeand the prize for best screenplay at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. With atotal of 42 prizes, it is one of the most highly awarded films in the historyof Bosnia and Herzegovinancinematography.
