DreamWorks Animation’s Penguins Of Madagascar has surged to $198.9m while The Book Of Life stands at $44.7m.

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies goes into the weekend as the reigning champion and may well prevail over Taken 3 for another weekend.

The fantasy finale has reached $522.3m through Warner Bros Pictures International and has plenty left in the tank with China to open on January 23.

American Sniper has amassed $10.5m from Italy and is ramping up for a UK release on January 16.
