Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron stormed into China on Tuesday, pushing Disney past the $2bn worldwide box office mark for the second consecutive year.
The May 12 $33.9m gross delivered Disney/Marvel’s biggest China opening day of all time and the industry’s biggest non-weekend opening day ever.
China pushed the international running total to $607.4m and the global tally to $932.2m, with $1bn surely on the cards by the weekend.
The international haul has surpassed those of Captain America ($194m), Iron Man ($265m), Thor ($268m), Iron Man 2 ($310m), Thor: The Dark World ($439m), Guardians Of The Galaxy ($441m) and Captain America: Winter Soldier ($455m).
Worldwide box office has surpassed the lifetime totals of Captain America ($371m), Thor ($449m), Iron Man ($583m), Iron Man 2 ($622m), Thor: The Dark World ($645m) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714m).
Besides Ultron, Disney’s key drivers for the year-to-date include Cinderella, Into the Woods and Big Hero 6.
