German sales agent Beta Cinema has confirmed details of its Cannes slate.
Among the new titles it is presenting in the market are The Notebook, the Hungarian-German war drama by János Szász (European Film Award for Woyzeck), starring Ulrich Thomsen, Ulrich Matthes and Orsolya Tóth.
The Notebook is a parable about the consequences of war on children’s psyches, based on the bestselling novel by the Swiss-Hungarian author Agota Kristof, which has been translated into more than 30 languages. In a village on the Hungarian border, two young brothers grow up during war time with their cruel grandmother and must learn every trick of evil to survive in the absurd world of adults.
Beta is also handling Imanol Uribe’s political thriller Orange Honey, about the partisans’ struggle against the Franco dictatorship. Starring Iban Garate, Blanca Suárez, Karra Elejalde and Eduard Fernández, the film was made throught Alta Producción and Fado Filmes with participation of TVE. The Spanish release date is June 1, 2012 (Alta Classics).
Meanwhile, underlining its appetite for political thrillers, Beta is also handling Two Lives starring Juliane Koehler and revered Norwegiian actress Liv Ullmann, as well as Shores Of Hope by Toke C. Hebbeln, starring Alexander Fehling, August Diehl and Ronald Zehrfeld.
