The LA-based company is fast-tracking production and has set Billy Ray to direct the sci-fi romance from his original story.

Jim Whitaker will produce and Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will serve as executive producers. 

Spencer Wong will oversee the project on behalf of Good Universe and Elizabeth Ingold will perform the same function for Whitaker Entertainment. Casting is underway.

Departure follows a brilliant FAA investigator whose wife travels on a plane that disappears while airborne.

The story is inspired by the book Ghosts Of The Air by Martin Caidin, which documents real accounts from pilots who have experienced flight anomalies.

Dan Freedman negotiated the deals for Good Universe. Billy Ray is represented by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Peter Nichols of Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.
