O-scope takes North American rights to Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes Competition title We Need To Talk About Kevin, starring Tilda Swinton.

New York-based distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Cannes Competition title We Need To Talk About Kevin, sold by Independent.

O-Scope plans a theatrical launch this winter, including an awards campaign.

Lynne Ramsay’s third feature stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller in the story of a mother coming to terms with grief and responsibility after her son commits a violent act. The story is adapted from Lionel Shriver’s controversial bestseller.

Adam Yauch, head of Oscilloscope Laboratories said: “We are honored to be working with Lynne, Tilda, John, and Ezra to release this masterpiece — the most intense thriller I’ve seen since Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby. I was on
the edge of my seat throughout and it was clear I was in the capable hands of a master filmmaker, who I’m now proud to see join all our other great filmmakers as a member of the O-Scope family.”

Luc Roeg, founder of Independent Film Company and one of the film’s producers, said: “Oscilloscope fought off strong and impressive competition. Their commitment and passion for We Need To Talk About Kevin gives us complete confidence that they will handle the film with the care and attention that it deserves. We are very excited to be working with Adam Yauch and David Fenkel.”

The deal was negotiated by Cinetic’s Bart Walker and John Sloss and by Andrew Orr from Independent.

Oscilloscope’s other upcoming releases include Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff and James Franco’s Saturday Night.
