Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel is set to star in The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of The Genius Ramanujan, which is being produced by Edward R Pressman of the Edward R Pressman Film Corporation and Prashita Chaudhary’s Cinemorphic Entertainment Company.

The film is a biopic of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who was plucked from obscurity in Edwardian India about brought to Cambridge in 1914.

The film is based on the novel by the novel of the same name by Robert Kanigel.

Matthew Brown, who recently wrote Duncan Jones’ upcoming Ian Fleming biopic and London Town, will direct from his own screenplay.

The other producers are Jim Young will produce for Animus Films alongside SofiaSondervan of Dutch Tilt Film.

Pressman said, “I am always impressed when a young filmmaker comes to me with a deep passion to make a film and Matthew has shown a real fire to tell this story. We’re excited to have Dev on board to bring Ramanujan to the screen.”

Chaudhary co-produced Directors’ Fortnight opener The Congress. He said: “Ramanujan is a legend in India, and so to be able to team with such an experienced producer as Edward R. Pressman on this film is exactly the kind of opportunity I’ve been waiting for.”

The film will start shooting in the UK and India this autumn.

Executive producers are Pressman’s COO Jon Katz along with Tristine Skyler, Xeigeist’s Joe Thomas, Pamela Godfrey, and Mark Montgomery. Tayab Madni will serve as an associate producer.
