Capote stole an early march on its awards seasonrivals by winning best feature at IFP's annual Gotham Awards in New York lastnight.

Director BennettMiller also scooped the breakthrough director award. His film is released inthe US through Sony Pictures Classics and is regarded as one of the strongcontenders for Academy Awards glory next March.

Henry-Alex Rubinand Dana Adam Shapiro's documentary Murderball won best documentary honours and isreleased in North America through THINKFilm.

Amy Adams wonbreakthrough actor for her role in Junebug, another Sony Classics title, while the ensemble actingprize went to the cast of The Squid And The Whale, released in North America throughSamuel Goldwyn Films.

As previouslyannounced, special tributes were handed out to Matt Dillon and Jim Jarmusch andthe Celebrate New York award went to Marilyn Agrelo's documentary Mad HotBallroom.
