Oscar-nominated Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo is to direct his first US film, The Rocker.

Rainn Wilson, who starred in the US version of television hit The Office, is in negotiations to play the lead role as an over-the-hill drummer who gets a second chance at fame with a new band, 20 years after he was booted out of his now uber-famous former band.

Additional casting is underway with shooting set to begin in June, in Toronto

UK director Cattaneo most recently wrote and directed and co-wrote Australian Outback drama Opal Dream and directed comedy Lucky Break, released by Paramount in the US. He is represented by UTA, ICM London and attorney Carlos Goodman.

Based on an original screen play by Ryan Jaffe, the most recent draft of The Rocker was written by team Wally Wolodarsky and Maya Forbes (ICM).

21 Laps Entertainment / Tom McNulty and Sean Levy are set to produce in conjunction with Atomic. (Levy directed Night at the Museum and Cheaper By the Dozen for Twentieth Century Fox). President of production Debbie Liebling will oversee the project for Atomic.
