UPDATED EXCLUSIVE: IM Global will look to strike a chord at AFM with Don Cheadle’s feature directorial debut, the Miles Davis biopic Kill The Trumpet Player.

Cheadle will star and Herbie Hancock is on board as executive producer and musical supervisor on the project, which Daniel Wagner’s Beverly Hills-based BiFrost Pictures is fully financing. UTA packaged the project and represents US rights.

The talk among buyers is that Cheadle will attend a buyer presentation at AFM and that Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana are in discussions to board Kill The Trumpet Player, one of only a handful of hot new titles to be announced at this stage in the run-up to the market.

BiFrost’s Wagner will produce with Robert Ogden Barnum.

Davis, the pioneering jazz trumpeter widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of last century, died aged 65 in 1991.

IM Global had not returned calls at time of writing to discuss the project. The AFM kicks off in Santa Monica on November 6.
