Toronto-based Cinemavault has augmented its EFM slate with international rights to the Vietnamese action film Clash from director Le Thanh Son.

The project is set to receive its market premiere on Sunday [14] and reunites Johnny Tri Nguyen and Than Van Ngo as mercenaries who fall in love after one enlists the help of the other to save her kidnapped daughter.

Clash broke the Vietnamese box office record for a domestic holiday release when it launched over the same weekend as Avatar and opened at number one approximately 10% ahead of James Cameron’s juggernaut.

Cinemavault’s senior vice-president of international distribution Caroline Stern negotiated the deal for Clash with producers Tawny Nguyen and Jimmy Pham Nghiem of Chanh Phuong Phim.

The producers previously collaborated on the 2007 release The Rebel, which starred Johnny Nguyen and Ngo and was distributed in the US through The Weinstein Company’s Dragon Dynasty label.
