Independent producer and festival veteran Colin Stanfield is taking the reins at the Nantucket Film Festival after founder and current executive director Jill Burkhart announced she was relinquishing oversight of day-to-day operations to chair the festival's board of directors.

Stanfield will commence work immediately in advance of the 14th edition that is set to run from June 18-22 2009.

'Running the Nantucket Film Festival the last number of years has been extremely gratifying for me,' Burkhart said. 'I'm happy and very satisfied to be leaving our event in such strong shape and capable hands, and I look forward to future creative endeavors and industry related projects.'

'With the Nantucket Film Festival's mature legacy, its unique position in the industry and the incredibly strong brand that the island itself brings, I believe our event is positioned extremely well as we move closer to our 15th year,' Stanfield added.

'I have tremendous respect for returning Artistic Director Mystelle Brabbee who is responsible in no small part for our great past successes, and I am very happy that her sharp instincts, passion and personality will continue to shape our future.'
