Columbia Pictures has acquired from Scholastic Media the right to adapt Scholastic's bestselling Goosebumps series of books into a feature.

Deborah Forte and Neal H Moritz of Original Films will produce the children's horror novellas. The first story was published in 1992 and the series has gone on to sell more than 300m copies worldwide.

The studio will begin developing the first Goosebumps movie immediately. Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project on behalf of the studio working closely with Original and Scholastic.
