Kurt Russell will star in DeathProof, Quentin Tarantino's segmentof the horror double feature Grindhouse he and Robert Rodriguez are shooting for The Weinstein Company (TWC).
Russell joins TWC regular Rosario Dawson, Zoe Bell, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd,Rose McGowan in the slasher project.
Tarantino made the announcement at the annual COMIC-CON event here, which drewapproximately 100,000 popular culture fans - many of them sporting theirfinest Spider-Man and Jedi livery - over four days to the San DiegoConvention Centre.
Tarantino plans to shoot Death Proof in Austin, Texas, in August. Rodriguez is currently in that cityshooting his segment, the zombie tale Planet Terror.
Plant Terror features an ensemble cast of Freddy Rodriguez, Naveen Andrews,Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn, Stacy Ferguson, Jeff Fahey, and Michael Parks.
Tarantino told the crowd he and Rodriguez will shoot Grindhouse in the tradition of the exploitation films of the1970s. Elizabeth Avellan and Erica Steinberg are serving as producers andDimension Films has scheduled an Apr 6 2007 release.
Sandra Condito, vice president of production and development, Shannon McIntosh,executive vice president of production and post production, and RichardSaperstein, president of production, are overseeing the project on behalf ofDimension Films, reporting to Bob Weinstein.
