XXX opened in second place in France for Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International (CTFDI) over the weekend with a $2.4m haul from 626 screens. The high-octane action thriller trailed Minority Report but the studio declared it a good opening, comparable to actioners Vertical Limit and Spy Game. There were number one bows in the Czech Republic, where the picture took $100,000 from 29 screens and fared slightly better than Mission: Impossible II, and Hungary, where it scored $180,000 from 50 screens and may have beaten the territory opening of Spider-Man according to provisional figures to be confirmed this week.

XXX held on to top spot in its second week in Mexico, taking $1m and dropping only 34%, while in Korea it grossed $1.2m for an unconfirmed first or second spot, dropping only 12% for a $3.7m cumulative total. XXX also held on to its top berth in Venezuela and New Zealand for a $6.3m weekend cumulative score from 2,300 screens and a $35m running total. The picture rolls out in the UK, Germany and Spain next weekend in what should be a lucrative period for CTFDI.

Stuart Little 2 took $1.9m over the weekend on 2,060 screens for a $76.7m cumulative score. Slow but steady results for the family sequel means it is expected to finish around $90m and has an outside chance of $100m. It opens in France and Sweden next week.

The Sweetest Thing, which grossed just over $24m domestically, increased its international tally to $33.3m with a $2.5m weekend take, the highlight being a German opening of $1.9m, including paid previews, from 635 screens. The romantic comedy placed second behind Minority Report, roughly on the same level as Mr Deeds and slightly ahead of Scooby-Doo.
