The experienced British executive has resurfaced after most recently serving as president of National Geographic Films.
Reporting to Charles Cohen, Battsek will work alongside the chairman and CEO to ramp up the production and distribution slate in 2013.
He will play an integral role in overseeing acquisition, production and distribution of Cohen Media Group titles and the Cohen Film Collection of landmark films, previously known as The Rohauer Library. Prior to National Geographic Battsek led Miramax Films.
“Daniel Battsek is a proven force in film production and distribution, and we are fortunate to have him as we prepare for great things in the coming year and beyond,” said Cohen.
“Cohen Media Group has quickly become a leading name in independent film, and I am thrilled to arrive as this exciting company is becoming a true powerhouse,” said Battsek.
The production slate includes Double Cross, Operation Mincemeat and a remake of the French film You Will Be My Son.
The company’s 2013 releases include Fernando Trueba’s The Artist And The Model, Pablo Berger’s Blancanieves, Francois Ozon’s In The House, Rachid Bouchareb’s first US film Just Like A Woman and the restored 1924 classic The Thief Of Bagdad.
