The Sony veteran is joining Revolver Entertainment as Head of Acquisitions, a newly created post.

CEO Justin Marciano has announced the appointment.

In 2006, Bishop took charge of Sony’s local acquisitions strategy. When Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group was established in early 2007, he took the newly created role of UK Acquisitions Manager, then became Head of Acquisitions for Northern Europe in 2008. In 2009, he moved to Los Angeles to serve as acting VP of Acquisitions for SPWAG.

Bishop had previously been responsible for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s UK and Northern European product acquisitions, and he worked on titles including Exam, Shrooms, Black Death and Moon. His recent acquisitions include Retreat starring Cillian Murphy, gritty drama Best Laid Plans and Jon Wright’s horror-comedy Grabbers.

“Dave is a popular and respected figure in both the UK industry and internationally and we are delighted to have him join us at such a busy and exciting time for Revolver,” said Marciano. “His ability to spot audience friendly titles from the sea of product currently out there is a talent we are glad to have on the team.”

Bishop added: “Revolver is the most exciting film distributor operating in the UK today.  Having worked with Justin and his team closely on several projects in the past, I’ve seen just how passionate they are about the movies they make and release. When the opportunity arose to join the business as Head of Acquisitions, I jumped at the chance to work with such a talented and creative group. I hope to now play a significant role in their continued growth and success.”
