Universal's horror remake Dawn Of The Dead grossed an estimated $2m through UIP atthe weekend, where the highlight was second place in Germany behind BrotherBear on $1.1m from 347screens.

The promising start grossed 92% more than the Texas ChainsawMassacre and 18% morethan House On Haunted Hill.

The picture opened top in Austria on $190,000 from 33, which wasapproximately 70% bigger than Resident Evil, and scored strong opening days of$47,000 from 20 in Hong Kong and $60,000 from 81 in Russia. Full weekendfigures will become available this week.

Dawn Of The Dead added $100,000 from 125 in its third weekend in Mexico for a$1.5m running total there after 17 days.

So far in the early stage of its run the picture has amassed $3.7mfor Universal/UIP countries. In the UK it grossed $275,000 from 205 in itsfourth weekend through Entertainment for $9.3m.

Dawn Of The Dead is due to open in Italy, Brazil, Spain and Taiwan this upcomingweekend and will open in the rest of the world over the next few months.

Along CamePolly grossed $1.7m from1,350 screens in 28 countries to raise the international running total to$78.5m. There are eight countries left to open.
