Former Odd Lot Entertainment principal Deborah Del Prete’s fledgling Coronet Films has started principal photography on its first feature Lifted.

Lexi Alexander, whose credits include Punisher: War Zone and Green Street Hooligans, is directing the film about a singing prodigy who gets inspired to win a contest when his marine father is deployed to Afghanistan.

The project introduces twelve-year-old Uriah Shelton in the central role of Henry Matthews, and includes Dash Mihok, Nicki Aycox, James Handy and American Idol’s Ruben Studdard and country music singer Trace Adkins.

“Having made the award-winning Green Street Hooligans with Lexi, I am thrilled to work with her again on the first film for my new company,” Del Prete said. “She is an exceptional multi-talent and it is exciting to be able to support her vision for this very inspiring project.”

The shoot is taking place in and around Birmingham, Alabama, and is the first film to be made with the benefit of the new Alabama film-incentive programme.

Los Angeles-based Coronet is making the film in association with Birmingham-based Hunter Films, headed by brothers Alan and Hugh Hunter, who serve as the film’s co-producers.

Del Prete’s producing credits include The Spirit, The Wedding Planner, and Buried Alive.
