Walter Salles' TheMotorcycle Diaries won the HollywoodWorld Award and Alejandro Amenabar's The Sea Inside won the Hollywood European Award, both sponsored byScreen International, at a gala ceremony last night (18).

The gala awards ceremony atthe Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles marked the culmination of the Hollywood FilmFestival, which opened on Oct 12 with the world premiere of Wendy Apple's filmediting documentary The Cutting Edge and closed on Oct 17 with the US premiere of Shainee Gabel's familydrama A Love Song For Bobby Long.

Both winners came from adistinguished roster of nominees that included Joshua Marston's Colombian-USdrama Maria Full Of Grace, ZhangYimou's Chinese epic House Of Flying Daggers and Koreeda Hirokazu's Japanese drama NobodyKnows in the World Awards section,and Mike Leigh's UK Golden Lion winner Vera Drake, Pedro Almodovar's Spanish drama Bad Education and Andrei Zvyagitsev's Russian drama The Return in the European strand.

Michael Moore's Fahrenheit9/11 was chosen by the public as theHollywood Movie of the Year, while the Hollywood Discovery Awards crownedAyassi's Vinzent as best feature,Francois Prevost and Hugo Latulippe's What Remains Of Us best documentary, and Todd Albright's Automation as best short subject.

"There is no moreappropriate place than the Hollywood Film Festival to honour the illustrioustalents of all these magnificent artists who have created some of the mostmemorable characters and truly unforgettable films," festival co-chair PaulaWagner said in a statement.
