The grand prize at the Gdynia Festival of Polish Features Films went to Krzysztof Zanussi for Life As A Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease.

The film - which took the main award at this year's Moscow film festival - also won the best male actor award for its star Zbigniew Zapasiewicz.

The prize for best director went to Andrzej Czarnecki for The Entity, while best female actress went to Maja Ostaszewska for her work in Looking At You Mary and Three Years Of The Thousand. The jury prize went to Some Like It Cold, directed by Tomasz Konecki.

Hordes of screaming teenagers besieging Gdynia hotels to catch a glimpse of their favourite Polish stars showed signs of improving times for the local film industry. With Polish films currently outperforming imported fare by two to one at the box office, Gdynia - the country's biggest annual film industry event - showcased a record 28 Polish features.
