Distribution Workshop has added a further two projects to its fast-growing slate - Derek Chiu’s romantic dramaThe Road Less Travelledand Lo Chi-leung’s horrorCurse Of The Deserted- both of which started shooting at the end of last month.

The Road Less Travelled stars Louis Koo, Huang Yi and Karen Mok and is produced by Derek Yee and Henry Fong. Curse Of The Deserted stars Shawn Yue and Kitty Zhang.

The start-up international sales outfit, launched last year by Nansun Shi and Jeffrey Chan in partnership with Beijing-based Polybona, now has a packed slate of product that also includes Max Mannix’s Rain Fall, starring Gary Oldman, and thriller Overheard, directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong and starring Lau Ching-wan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu.

The company, which is one of the few third party sales agent in Asia, has also picked up Chinese director Wang Yuelun’s sleeper hit Almost Perfect and Huo Jianqi’s romantic drama Snowfall In Taipei, starring Chen Bolin.

It will also be handling titles from Irresistible Films, a fund established by Japan’s Avex Group and Hong Kong producer Bill Kong.

‘The company is growing very quickly but steadily,’ says Shi. ‘We are handling more films that we had originally planned for, needless to say, quality films as well. We are also recruiting new staff, adding 50% manpower.’

Shi and director Tsui Hark are being honoured tonight (Monday) at the Asian Film Awards where their iconic production company Film Workshop will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema Award. Legendary Taiwanese actress Brigitte Lin is presenting the award.

Film Workshop is also the subject of a special programme at this year’s Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) - A Tribute To Romantic Visions: 25th Anniversary of Film Workshop - which will screen 12 of the company’s films including Tsui’s A Chinese Ghost Story and The Legend Of Zu.
