Avie Luthra’s South African drama follows an orphaned 10-year-old struggling to make something of his life in the big city.
Lucky is in English, Zulu and Hindi and is based on a screenplay by Luthra. Film Movement plans a first quarter 2013 theatrical release and day-and-date VoD launch.
Film Movement vp of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget negotiated the deal with Double Dutch International president Jason Moring on behalf of How Town Productions.
The film is based on the life of a British Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner John Davidson.
He predicts films including ‘Hamnet’, ‘Pillion’ and ‘Young Mothers’ will do well with this demographic at the Spanish box office.
The event, also known as Seminici, offers a €70,000 prize to the Spanish distributor of the winning film.
