7-57 Releasing and partner Markedia Worldwide have announced the acquisition of US distribution rights and international sales on Manny Perez and Josh Crook’s Dominican action thriller La Soga.

The Spanish-language film will receive an aggressive New York launch on August 13 before expanding to reach other Latino markets in Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicao and Boston.

La Soga is set in The Dominican Republic and tells of a police officer who takes on a brutal Latin American regime. Perez wrote the screenplay and stars alongside Denise Quinones, Juan Fernandez and Paul Calderon. The film premiered at Toronto last year.

Perez and Crook produced with Jeff Crook, while Patrick Pope, Jose Miguel Bonetti, Henry Mu, Celines Toribio, Jesse Scolaro, Allen Bain, Patrick R Morris, Kate White Morris, Robert G Morris and Michael Bassick served as executive producers.

Antena Latina Films will handle distribution in the Dominican Republic with Cynthia Wiesner of Wiesner Distribution handling Puerto Rico.

Steven Raphael’s Required Viewing in conjunction with MJ Peckos’ Mitropoulos Films will oversee all elements of the US marketing and distribution campaign.

“We fell in love with the film when we first saw it and are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide thi summer,” Jesse Scolaro, who founded 7-57 with Allen Bain, said.

“I am very excited to be working on such a rare and powerful film – every few years a diamond in the rough comes out of all the Latino productions and this year’s gem is definitely La Soga,” Karina Korenblum, who is handling International Sales for 7-57, added
