Alliance Films will handle the release of the CBS Films slate through 2012 under the terms of a deal announced today(December 1).

The deal encompasses theatrical, DVD, online and television rights. The slate kicks off on January 22, 2010 with the drama Extraordinary Measures (pictured) starring Brendan Fraser, Harrison Ford and Keri Russell.

Romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan starring Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin will open on April 16, followed by the edgy teen romance Beastly starring Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer on July 30.

Action thriller Faster, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton in the story of an ex-con seeking justice for his murdered brother, will begin production in Los Angeles in January 2010 with a release planned for autumn 2010.

CBS Films plans to distribute four to six films a year with budgets under $50m and will handle its own distribution in the US.

“We are delighted to represent CBS Films in Canada,” Alliance Films’ chairman Victor Loewy said. “They are going to be an important force in the marketplace and a strong addition to our slate of films.”
