A theatrical release is anticipated near Halloween on the Lucky Monkey Pictures and Red Hour Films project starring Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter and Sigourney Weaver. Meanwhile Strand Releasing and Oscilloscope Laboratories have picked up a pair of socially conscious documentaries.

Amy Heckerling wrote and directed Vamps, which follows two hard-partying immortals who face a life-altering choice when they fall in love. Wallace Shawn and Dan Stevens also star.

Parlay Films handled international sales and Lauren Versel, Molly Hassell, Stuart Cornfeld and Maria Teresa Arida produced, while the executive producer roster includes Stanislaw Tyczynski, Julie Kroll, Kamal Nahas, John Jencks, Lisa Wilson, Stephen Hays and Peter Graham.

Kevin Kasha, Josh Thomashow and Marc Barson negotiated the deal for Anchor Bay Films with Cassian Elwes, Kevin Iwashima and Kroll on behalf of the filmmakers.

  • Strand has picked up select US rights from The Film Sales Company to Ross Finkel’s Ballplayer: Pelotero, a documentary about aspiring baseball players in the Dominican Republic. It will open in theatres and on VoD on Jul 13.
  • O-scope has taken North American rights to Mary Mazzio’s documentary The Apple Pushers narrated by Edward Norton, The film focuses on an experiment whereby immigrant street vendors bring fresh fruit and vegetables into poor New York neighborhoods. David Fenkel and David Laub negotiated the deal with Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza of Preferred Content.
