Fortissimo Films has sold Kevin Macdonald’s Bob Marley project Marley to several key territories, including Germany (Kinowelt), France (Wild Side), South Africa (Nu Metro) and Switzerland (Ascot Elite).

Buyers are also in discussions for territories including Benelux and Australia.

Tuff Gong Films/Shangri-La Entertainment are producing the documentary, which marks the first project to have use of the Marley family private archives and footage. Cowboy Films is also on board.

Marley is set for release later this year, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of his death in 1981.

Fortissimo Chairman Michael J Werner said: “The early footage we are showing at the EFM is an irresistible taster of what is to come, and we anticipate sealing further deals before the market concludes.”

Macdonald added: “What made Bob tick is probably unanswerable, but viewers will certainly feel that they know him a little better after seeing our documentary.”

Charles Steel is producing for Cowboy, with co-producer Zach Schwartz of Shangri-La. Executive producers include Ziggy Marley, Chris Blackwell and Steve Bing.

Also, Macdonald’s YouTube film Life In A Day premiered at Sundance and also plays at the Berlinale; and his Roman epic The Eagle will be released later this month.
