D Films has acquired Canadian distribution rights from Magnolia Pictures International to Casey Affleck’s documentary I’m Still Here.

The film is set to receive its world premiere in Venice before crossing the Atlantic for the international premiere in Toronto. It charts Joaquin’s Phoenix’s attempt to launch a career as a rapper following his supposed retirement from acting.

I’m Still Here will open in major cities across Canada on September 24 following its North American premiere as a special presentation in Toronto.

D Films president and CEO Jim Sherry brokered the deal with Magnolia Pictures International’s Laird Adamson.
