The deal connects consumers with content creators in a communal VoD platform and kicks off on Jul 27 with the comedy Klown, about an ill-fated Danish canoe trip.

Content sharers are eligible for Distrify’s affiliate revenue system designed to encourage sharing among fans and online communities to maximise sales.

Klown will be available to rent on Distrify day-and-date with the film’s release in theaters, on VoD and via iTunes. Warner Bros plans to remake the comedy with Danny McBride and Todd Phillips attached.

  • Drafthouse Films has acquired Mads Brugger’s darkly comic documentary The Ambassador, about the illicit trade in diplomatic titles. Zentropa financed the project. James Emanuel Shapiro of Drafthouse Films negotiated the deal with Susan Wendt of Trustnordisk.
  • Dada/required viewing have acquired Backwards for US. MJ Peckos and Steven Raphael plan a Sept 21 theatrical and VoD day-and-date release in New York, LA and Philadelphia before expanding into 10 markets over the following two weekends. Sarah Megan Thomas wrote, directed, produced and stars in Backwards, about an Olympic rowing hopeful who questions her goals. James Van Der Beek also stars. Andrew Herwitz negotiated the deal with the distributors.
