Iron Man 2 grossed $2.2m from 960 sites in six territories on Wednesday, setting up a promising weekend as the action sequel prepares to touch down in more than 50 territories.

Marvel Entertainment’s action sequel is distributed overseas through PPI and marks the first release under Disney’s ownership of Marvel.

The film took $1.6m on its opening day in France and also debuted in Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands and French-speaking Switzerland.

Anticipated releases still to come this weekend encompass the UK, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
