Fariborz Kamkari’s The Flowers Of Kirkuk, being sold by Adriana Chiesa in the EFM, is set to be released in Iraq in late March.

Flowers is one of the first movies that will be seen in a new circuit of cinemas that is being built in Kurdistan with support from the Kurdish Government.

Here at the EFM, Kamkari revealed that he is also planning special screenings for the Minister Of Culture, for former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

The film’s Italian release was handled by Medusa in November.

Adriana Chiesa has already secured deals for The Flowers Of Kirkuk in several territories, among them Japan (Alcine Terran), California Filmes (Brazil) and Quality Films (Mexico.) Columbus is handling the Swiss releasel.

The project began its life in Berlin’s CoProduction market where producer Fabrizia Falzetti of Far Out Films brought on board Swiss coproducer Marcel Hoehn.

The film is love story set in Iraq in the late 1980s. During the darkest days of Saddam Hussein’s regime, a Kurd from Kirkuk and an Arab from Baghdad fall in love.

Kamkari is currently preparing a new project, Pizza And Kebab, a comedy about Muslim immigrants in present-day Italy. It will again be made with Far Out Films.
