The 3D version of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace will open in theatres on Feb 10, 2012 through Fox.

Industrial Light & Magic supervised the 3D conversion and it is understood that if the film performs well at the box office Fox, which is on board to redistribute the franchise, will release subsequent films at yearly intervals.

George Lucas had been flirting with the idea of retrofitting his sci-fi opus and told reporters in January 2010 that he felt a new impetus to convert them after watching Avatar.
