Richard Linklater’s dark comedy for Mandalay Vision and Wind Dancer Films stars Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Shirley MacLaine.

HPI head Mimi Steinbauer will tempt buyers on the Croisette with the story of a Texas mortician who kills the town’s grande dame and creates the illusion she is still alive.

Linklater (pictured) wrote the screenplay with Skip Hollandsworth based on an article that appeared in Texas Monthly magazine in 1998 entitled Midnight In The Garden Of East Texas.

The director is producing with Ginger Sledge, Wind Dancer’ Matt Williams, David McFadzean, Judd Payne, Dete Meserve, Mandalay Vision’s Celine Rattray and Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer.

“Richard is an incredibly talented filmmaker with a track record that speaks for itself,” Hyde Park Entertainment head Ashok Amritraj said. “We look forward to working with Mandalay and Wind Dancer as we bring the picture to the international marketplace.”
