Lionsgate has slotted Tyler Perry’s drama For Colored Girls into the 2010 release calendar in preparation for an awards run.

The film will open in North America on November 5 and stars Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Janet Jackson, Whoopie Goldberg, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine, Tessa Thompson and Thandie Newton.

For Colored Girls is based on Ntozake Shange’s play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, which was adapted into a book and chronicles the life experiences of a number of black women.

Perry adapted the screenplay, directed and is producing For Colored Girls, which shot in Atlanta and marked the first project for his 34th Street Films, housed at Lionsgate. Paul Hall is also producing. Lionsgate holds worldwide rights.
