Magnet Releasing has announced its second acquisition this week, taking US rights from Cinetic to Brad Anderson’s recent Toronto world premiere Vanishing On 7th Street.

Hayden Christensen, John Leguizamo, Thandie Newton and Jacob Latimore star in the tale of what happens to a group of individuals after darkness engulfs Detroit and the city’s population disappears.

Vanishing On 7th Street is an apocalyptic thriller about the end of the world and it could not be placed in better hands than with Magnet Releasing, whose expertise in distributing genre films is par none,” Anderson said. “I am excited to be working with them to bring the film to audiences across the country.”

Magnet will release theatrically in February 2011. Senior vice-president Tom Quinn brokered the deal with Cinetic.
