The Dutch thriller is based on the actual 1983 abduction of the brewery magnate Alfred Heineken who was eventually released for a €16m ransom.

Rutger Hauer stars in The Heineken Kidnapping, in which Heineken is held for 21 days in a cold cell and plots his revenge once he is freed. Maarten Treurniet directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Kees van Beijnum.

Frans van Gestel, Arnold Heslenfeld and Richard Claus produced the Topkapi Films production.

MPI Media Group evp Greg Newman negotiated the deal with Stefanie Zeitler of Global Screen, the world sales unit of Bavaria Film and Telepool.

The distributor plans a theatrical release in autumn followed by VoD and DVD roll-out
