Roger Donaldson has signed on to his next directing job and has boarded Cities, which will star Owen and Anil Kapoor. Lisa Wilson’s Parlay Films commences pre-sales in Cannes.

Matthew Metcalfe and Chris Curling are producing the financial thriller and Julie Christie will serve as executive producer alongside Eyeworks New Zealand, who partner on the production.

Donaldson co-wrote the screenplay from Glenn Wilhide’s original script Extreme Cities, about overlapping lives in the exuberant months leading up to the Dow Jones stock market high. Filming is set to begin in October in multiple cities including London, New York and Mumbai.

“We are very excited to be working with two of the finest cinema talents working in the industry today,” Metcalfe said. “Clive is one of the finest actors of his generation, while Roger’s consistent high standards, talent and box office success demonstrates his continued ability to deliver films of the highest international calibre.”

Cities is a project that I am very enthusiastic about, Donaldson said. “Set in the great cities of the world, this film will tell a story for our time while also being a relevant, dramatic, exciting and a highly watchable movie”

UTA’s Independent Film Group helped to package the film and structure the financing and will represent domestic rights with CAA.

Donaldson’s credits include the upcoming vigilante thriller The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, as well as The Bank Job and The Recruit.
