EXCLUSIVE: Robert Redford will direct and star opposite Nick Nolte in the Bill Bryson adaptation A Walk In The Woods. Sources said IM Global will launch sales at Cannes.

Michael Arndt, the Oscar winning screenwriter of Little Miss Sunshine, adapted the novel A Walk In The Woods: Rediscovering America On The Appalachian Trail.

The Wildwood Enterprises comedy centres on a veteran writer who in a bid to revitalise his life heads off on the perilous Appalachian Trail with his overweight, recovering alcoholic friend. WME Global represents US rights.

Chip Diggins and Bill Holderman, who worked with Redford on Lions For Lambs, will produce.

Redford stars in JC Chandor’s out of competition Cannes premiere All Is Lost.

IM Global’s Croisette sales slate includes Martin Scorsese’s Silence, Lee Daniels’ Janis Joplin biopic Get It While You Can starring Amy Adams, Kevin Costner’s reunion with director Mike Binder on the drama Black And White and the crime story Gotti starring John Travolta.

IM Global had not returned calls at time of writing.
